RSM 250 Going Topless

Thankyou Bmp Its that hot you can fry an egg on a shovel lol.
That is warm !! I am in the UK and don't have that issue.

Your tank pictures look great. I like your lights too. Glad to see you managed to get your hood apart ok and use it to cover the back of the tank too.

Look forward to seeing your tank progress.

Good luck

How about dust?
We have tile floors, 3 dogs, and in the winter we use our fireplace insert. All of these combine for a dusty house.

Can get more info on how you're using the front part of the canopy as a cover for the back part of the tank?

You've got my interest. Can we see the underside of it? And does it rest securely?

It just lifts off and back on and sits very firmly in place.

I have a Deltec MC500 skimmer which just sits at a perfect height for the cover to go straight across.

Hope that helps.

Thanks

Excellent thread. I'm planning on going topless in March/April when my bulbs need changing and was wondering how I was going to deal with covering the back portion. I was thinking of having someone make a black acrylic guard for me. Now I'm going with this. Kudos for a great idea.

Thanks. I was pushed into it because my original lights failed and there was a 2 week wait for a new light unit. I had already looked into LEDs anyway so that just mad my mind up.
Good luck when you do yours.

Thanks

Got home the other day to a burning smell in my office. The lights were out on my RSM250 and the smell has coming from the hood.

My tank was a used tank that I got off a friend of mine so not under warranty or anything. The fans have been noisy for a while too. The hood had also been modified slightly were the previous owner had tried to fit LEDs, so the only option was a new hood.

To buy a new hood in the UK costs £599 and would take 3 to 4 days to arrive !!

My local supplier had the Maxspect Razor LEDs in stock for £399 so I decided to try them out.

For now I have hung them above my tank. i have my old hood that I am going to try and modify to fit the LED unit inside but I am not sure how yet.

In the meantime here is how it looks topless.

I quite like the look of it without the hood and I might keep it that way. What does everyone think ?

Thanks
