Our RSM 250 adventure

Hi there all. My name is Regina and live in Holland with my boyfriend Etienne. We just bought a rsm 250 (used) with an aquamedic chiller, deltec mc500 and 2 tunze 6055 with the tidal controller.

After a month of fiddling around restoring and cleaning the tank we're finally testing the tank with fresh water.

Stumbled into some cooling issues because the chiller is in the cupboard underneath the tank. But hopefully we solved the problem.

The deltec pump is jumping around like a mad man, the rotor seems to be out of balance.

So this week it is internet time, see if we can find the spare parts.

So far so good. Will post some pics from start untill today.
Love to see a seperate rsm forum, saves me from searching all the other forums [emoji6]

The hose between the pump and chiller and ofcourse the returning hose. Original fitting was to big so we solved it like this.

Found a great spot

Besides the original powerunit we installed a second one because the deltec and tunze pumps didn't fit

Solved the heating issue for the chiller

So far so good. Now some further testing and then salt water ???

And start reading this topic.

Well done. Remember to leave enought space between the tank and the wall to allow you to do future works in the back, if needed (they are always needed :) )

Cheers

Looking good! Just set up a red sea max c250 and they are Wonderfull tanks! One thing that I can recommend is if you have a left over canister filter available to use it during the first week of use to clear up the water. Otherwise it took me about 2 weeks before it was perfectly clear. Cant wait to see some pictures when it

I have about 2 inches at the back. We have very nosy cats walking around that love crawl into odd places. So to make sure they cannot get behind the tank and mesh up the wiring, we left 2 inches from the wall. We do have plenty of space on both sides. So far so good no attempt from the cats to get behind the tank. [emoji106]

Thanks for the tip. All tips and tricks are welcome. Currently we are running on freshwater. Just to see if there are any problems. And we found a few.. I think in a couple of week we go over on salt water. And we live nearby the sea with pretty clear water and i also work in a place where we have a huge saltwater aquarium [emoji6]. We want to take it easy with fish and corals, they are not cheap. So far so good while running on freshwater. Today improving the heatshield on the chiller it works fine now. A nice and steady 24c

After a couple of days running on freshwater, we made some changes. We replaced the protiene skimmer. The deltec mc500 has an unbalanced rotor and when we turn on the skimmer it sounds like a chopper lifting off [emoji15], so we put in a tunze 9004. Because buying a new rotor cost about 90 euros. It has to come from germany and the new skimmer costs 125. We also replaced pump nr2 and we put that in the tank below. (In the cupboard for refilling when we do the water change). Now we have 2 eheim pumps in the tank. The noise level is very nice, the washing machine next door is making more noise [emoji13]. All we have to do now is empty the tank put in live rock and salt water and we are set to go. Can't wait actually.....

We pumped out the freshwater today. Went well i must say. Did some small changes and we put in the new tunze silence brackets for the pumps. Cleaned the tank. Now it is ready to use. Going to get my water on monday (gonna get it from the huge marine aquarium we have at the place where i work) and on tuesday i'm going to collect my live rock. Can't wait....

Damn that was kind of a bummer. The live rock wasn't delivered so i drove 50 miles for you know who. Hopefully in on thursday (i ring first [emoji38]) but i did some inspiration on aquascaping and some corals.

I love this. I spent more time in front of my reef then for the tv. And i spotted something. It's an egg but have no clue from what. Give me a week and i know every corner of my reef.
It has been running for a full day now and we did the first measurements. It looks like a chemist lab hahahah.
