Broken Refractometer

Well, my cat swatted my BRS Refractometer (plastic box & all) off of the bar this morning & IT BROKE! :tears: I swear my cat HATES the attention my tank gets. He loves to swat open containers of fish food into the floor also :flaming:
Anyway, the hinged plastic prism cover broke off & I'm going to have to buy another refractometer.
I tried super glue gel & it didn't work to re-attach it. :(
My QUESTION IS: WHICH refractometer do you use? Are there better ones or about the same?
I thought mine worked fine but Charlie fixed it to where it doesn't now :mad:
Any suggestion (other than killing Charlie!) are appreciated.

Glenn, did you get the one with the LIGHT or the one without? I like the idea of the calibration DIAL (instead of having to use the tiny screwdriver). I'll stick with this type instead of digital as they are easy to use.
I've sent an e-mail to BRS about getting mine repaired, I just hate to toss it in the trash when it'd be a seemly easy fix. Just frustrating because I have WC water mixing right now.

I just have their Standard one - $59 no light or special dial :)

I longtime swt member of our local reef club here had one, and I had my 1st one from Foster & Smith - his was so much brighter - I got one :)

I have the BRS refractometer, which included the Calibration fluid. I've been happy with it.

Well, I got a reply from BRS....glad to have the part coming from salt fan (as stated above^^)
Kinda disappointed in BRS Refractometer SIMPLE parts not being available at all :( from them. Looks like if they out their name on it, they could sell a simple part that can easily be broken.

Hi Diana,

Sorry We actually don't have parts to repair it. I'm not even sure if it's repairable to be honest or if they are any out there that is repairable. Most of the ones that I've seen are just like ours but different colors.

sorry to hear that you broke your refract mete:cry1:r, I got mine from Premium Aquatic which is noting fancybut does a great job.

:woohoo: THANKS JOHN! (saltfan) new part in hand (got it today!!) Will be happy to get home & fix my refractometer. Using that plastic hydrometer really SUCKS!

Hey Diana... I jst loved ur cat story. Plz post some pics of him when he is upto no goood :D
For salinity I use the floating glass hydrometer...never tried a refractometer before...have always been satisfied with these!

Thanks Akshay! I think if you ever start using a refractometer, you'd HATE using that plastic hydrometer. :yup:
Before the tank arrived Charlie got all the attention & now he doesn't unless he acts ugly so HE DOES. LOL!
You can click on my "reef chronicle" (by my name) and see a few of my pictures of him & my tank from when it arrived. So far, he hasn't gone swimming in SW but I feel sure it's likely that he will & that's an awful feeling. :lookaroun

First thing my gf said when looking at the pic with the new piece: "thats some really nice nails. Hun I need a manicure!"
Expensive hobby if you ask me, just by browsing the forum I get broke :D
