heres a couple more things that came out of the studio in the last month.

Heres a chandelier I'd love to take even partial credit for but it was my partners. I don't even remember the count on how many pieces went into it.

Another one of my flowers. Sorry I had a huge smudge on the glass and didn't realize it till I had the pics on the net.

pyrex is a name giving to a formula of glass from corning. Most know pyrex as the glass cooking ware. That however is a different formulation then the one we use . Other common terms for the glass I use are borosilicate or lab grade pyrex. Basically glass can be made up of many components like some has lead, some has soda lime, some has boric acid(pyrex) mixed with silica.
Lab grade pyrex is a very stable formulation of glass that resists acid and heat extremely well. It also has excellent optical clarity. Its often called hard glass as its very stiff to work with and requires an intense amount of heat to bring it to the point of softening where it can be manipulated. If you've seen anyone blowing glass in your life most likely you were witnessing "soft" glass not pyrex.
Its also an extremely expensive glass costing many times that of what most "soft" glass. Hope that helps. :)

Yup chihuly-esk from a lamp worker. Quite a feat. The amount of time involved was sick.
I only use heavy wall or extra heavy wall glass. Right now I am only stocking 12mm so its 12 x 2.
Any how hit me up in a PM. Always enjoy meeting other glass workers.

Hate to mis-quote it but I think its $20,000. Pretty sure that includes the installation which is an all day affair, with the amount of pieces and the crazy amount of weight. It really is an incredible effect though.

yuppers. Its very hot right now. Well has been for a while. Those are mostly made in hot shops from soft glass. A hot shop is where they pull glass from a huge crucible and teams of people work together to make them. Its what most people see in cruise port towns in latin america. Anyhoo those usually go from around $40,000 to a couple 100k, especially if it came from chihuly.

oh as far as cleaning. Each glass piece should be removable. I am not sure how often they remove them and reassmble but it is possible. Not a job I'd want to undertake.

BigJay I was wondering if you could make frag plugs out pyrex? The reason I ask is because I think it would be a great way to make a mold in sand so I can make my own frag plugs. I don't know how to add a draw and add a pick up here, so ill explain it. I would want the disk part to be about the size of a quarter and 1/4" thick with the plug being 3/8" thick and a 1/2" long coming to a dull point, and on the other side of the disk some sort of handle to lift it out of the sand. And for a disk the same as before with just a handle. If you can make something like that please let me know what it would cost to make 2 of each. I am also interested in getting 1 of the 24" droppers you make.

Hey Jay,
I am interested in a 24" dropper and one of those Cheato huts like you sent to Big Al. Let me know how much and I will either send you a check or paypal you.

Thanks
Jason

Policy change.

All orders must now be shipped with a $ .75 USPS delivery confirmation. I've only ever had one lost in the mail , that of course was replaced free of charge, but can no longer gaurantee free replacements for those lost in shipping without the confirmation.
Thanks again for all the support!

$.75 is a SMALL price to pay to know that your package is on the way!!! buyers will now also have the ability to "track" their items travels!

no problem from me on this jay!

by the way, if your order is more than $250 you will need to do Signature confirmation otherwise paypal will not protect the seller. I speak from experience with all of my ebay deals... I've had items that i sold for over $300 and used delivery confirmation. the buyer claimed that someone else signed for it. Paypal asked that i provide them with proof of WHO signed for it and the delivery confirmation was not enough. Since i could not provide signature confirmation They refunded the money to the buyer and i was SOL. Even though i had delivery confirmation. The signature confirmation is about $2 ish and well worth it when you're dealing with larger value items.

Thanks Ryan for that info. I definetly did not know that. Sad that you have to get bit by the paypal system first to know the rules. And yes tracking the package is a huge bonus. Sometimes I ship two items to someone on the same day and the packages arrive days apart(like razorvine's pod hotel and dropper). Speaking of shipping items Ryan I sent you a dropper already too along with the plates you needed. If those plates aren't exactly what you needed let me know what we need to change.

Glad to hear it razorvines. I think the tubes are so small the machine just can't read them and they go to hand sort. Allthough when shipped priority the usually get to people in 2-3 days, so who knows.
Don't forget everyone give your glass at least a quick rinse before use.
