Welcome to RS Epic and good luck on your new journey, the main idea is to cycle the tank which usually takes about a month, I would recommend you to get the most basic test kits so you can monitor the water an know exactly when your tank is ready to receive inhabitants, the kits to get at the beginning are, Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate, maybe PH and Salinity (Refractometer), at some point there are other kits but for know I would recommend these, maybe you can get the API Matine Lab kit which brings all of these, excluding the refractometer.

Hope you can begin a new thread for your tank and upload pictures of it, we all love the pictures :D

You should start a Reef Chronicle here, and let us know about your tank setup, and aslo keep track of your progress. I always find it crazy when i look back at where my reef started and how far its come.

the brown/orange stuff kinda looks like diatoms. the other stuff looks like sponges to me from what i can tell. harmless filter feeders. good little critters.
