Well I had a small mishap I forgot to mention.
Friday night I noticed a small leak where the return pump (external) was leaking from the bulkhead thread. This was a problem because I would have to drain the sump to re tape the threads. Thought I could just loosen the bulkhead and turn it a bit to stop it. It was a very slow drip. One per two minutes about.
When I turned to bulkhead and held the pump steady the threads on the pump just snapped off! Now I had a problem. It was after 12 am, family was sleeping and all that was stopping 20 gallons of water from dumping from the sump was the palm of my hand.
I had my phone next to me so I texted my daughter to come quickly hoping she was awake.
(Don't dare wake the wife because of the aquarium. Learned that one long ago!)
She was up! My hero! Being the quick thinker she is she found a large cork in my shop and quickly brought it to me. Good thing too. I don't know how much longer I could stay in that position.
So the bulkhead was done with the threads stuck in it. I had a spare (glad I have a box of reef plumbing from over the years) changed it out yesterday and bought a new pump.
No Quietones in Charleston so I settled for a Sicca from the lfs. I have to say, it is even more quiet then the Quietone! Has a bit more flow also. I am happy.
