rsm orverflow box - why do I need it?

I was just wondering if I need the overflow box on my rsm 130d.

Assuming you are talking about the Weir gate and back chambers.... That is your "sump" in an AIO tank. Not sure what your after. Good luck!

If you're asking about the box that clips in front of the weir gate on the display side that's there for surface skimming.

YES you need it. As noted above it is your "surface skimmer" to help remove nasties from the waters surface into the filter area.

If I remember this was one of the improvements going from 130 to 130D, it was not on the 130 and caused problems, fixed with the 130D.
