And here's a shot of the what took me the longest... sifting the rubble out of the sandbed. The rubble is going in the new tank, and I'm discarding the old aragonite.
Oh what fun
that was... at first I was going to use a collander to do the sifting, but realized that it would be a futile undertaking due to the hole spacing...
So... I made some custom sifters out of some old plastic jugs I had laying around... I say sifter's' because the first one I made had too large of holes in it, so I had to sift 65 lbs of sand
twice... :columbo:
But... I was able to get the smaller rubble out the second time around, so it's all good.
I find that with the rubble in the sandbed I have a much higher survival rate with Astrea/Margarita/Turbo snails... when they fall over they'll actually pick up several pieces of rubble until their foot is heavy enough to 'right' themselves... so they're not as 'dumb' as we all think...
You can see in the silver tub all the crap that came out of the sandbed... ugh! I even got a mouthful of it when starting a siphon on the tank... :bugout:
Well, I think that's it for tonight's installment... the good stuff starts tomorrow.
