Mushroom secretion

My PH level was at a 7.8. I added marine buffer to increase it to 8.4. After adding the buffer my mushrooms started secreting a mucus like substance. Does anyone know why that is and if it's normal?

It might have been too much of a pH jump at once. I think the usual recommendation is to only increase pH by 0.1 - 0.2 at a time and let things adjust. A 0.6 jump may have upset things, buty hopefully they'll recover.

Stress from the sudden pH increase most likely. Don't use pH Buffer unless your Alkalinity is low.

Check your alkalinity too, to be sure you didn't get too high while trying to get the pH up.

how can you raise PH w/o raising alkalinity?

I think Brightwell's pH+ will raise pH without raising Alk. There may be others too.

Yeah the ph+ from brightwell aquatics is the way to go. It helps a ton!
