Got my lights today also, I ordered white but the lights are black too.
It took half an hour to mount the lights and two and a half hours to work out how to get them working with the app and home pc.
The light is certainly different to the tubes and in my eyes not quite so pleasing on the eye however Im sure a bit of tinkering will work wonders.

Paul

I've had a similar experience to Paul. The unit goes together quickly but it took more time to get the lights connected to my network and phone...

Here is the chassis going together.

Here the lights are fixed on.

Here is the LED unit mounted on the tank and the old T5s on the floor.

Finally here is the tank

Feelings about the build - all pretty straight forward. 4 screws put the chassis together and then there are two screws and a metal bracket for each Hydra. The chassis won't balance on the floor - it is front heavy. The other tip I have is get all your lights connected with one as the parent and the other 1/2/3 as children before you upgrade the firmware. At the moment I have 1 light on a separate connection as I upgraded the firmware on that one first.

I have set up an acclimatisation setting (I think) so the lights do not feel as bright as the T5s were but not tried ramping them up as a test. There is more illumination of the back wall of my lounge as the unit is mounted higher than the old 'gull winged' T5 unit. From my usual viewpoint on the sofa I could see the T5s so the higher mounting does not make much difference to my view. I'm pleased that the overall colour is not too blue like I see in lots of LFSs though I have yet to try playing with the channels independently.

The things I'm looking forward to are:

  • My fish not getting a startled when the T5s went on and off - the slow ramp up should be a big improvement.
  • The extra control
  • The smaller electric bill!
  • My lounge not being like a sauna in the summer with 800 watts of T5 plus the chiller kicking out heat.
Will keep you posted

Folks, if the Hydra's need a firmware update from 1.3.1 to 1.4.0 we recommend performing the firmware update first, it actually makes setting up the lights easier.

For those who can use a Wi-Fi enabled laptop or PC if you would like a profile that closely matches the Reef Spec T5 lamp spectrum drop me an email to uk.info @redseafish.com and I will happily send you it.

I would upload the file but its an AI file type.

I have installed the profile from Kev (Who was of great assistance) and have to tell you the colors and spectrum make a huge difference. My own settings left the light somewhat laking but the Red Sea profile is amazing in my eyes and according to Kev its been developed for reef tanks. I urge you all to try it as I do not think you will be dissapointed. Well done Red Sea & well done Kev for exemplory service.

Thanks Kevin. I have now installed the new profile and i must say it is fantastic, much better (in my opinion) than the "easy option" settings on the AI portal when you compare the two.

I would highly recommend taking Kev up on his generous offer to email customers the profile.

I have ordered mine for my RSM 400, but I am a quite annoyed. I think 2 modules are insufficient, so I have ordered a 3rd one, which I have to pay € 430 ($ 490).
For 3 modules that means I have to pay € 1,455 ($ 1,657), which is even more expansive than the 3 module kit for the RSM 500 here in Europe ( € 1,329 = $ 1,513). That is incoherent.
This has to be taken into consideration, as all the kits are manifestly under calibered.

Hi, what is your opinion about led lights for rsm130? I'm thinking about radion xr15 or 30 (taking the coverage out).....do you have a better suggestion? I want to have sps and I think this will be only possible with LEDs.... Thank you!

Are there any stores in the USA accepting orders for the MAX-S 650 LED upgrade? My T5s evaporate water at a rate of 1.5 to 2.0 gallons per 24hrs, and my 1/3 Arctic Chiller runs and runs. I am new to this site and very glad to have found this site.

I too would like Kev lighting profile, please email.

Thanks,
Bob
