Hey guys, I thought this would be the place to post this thread, even if it's not about a blue-spot jawfish. I just got a jawfish from my LFS, but I'm not sure I know exactly what kind it. As soon as I can, I'll add a pic. He was sold as a gold-spec jawfish (for a steal of a price!), but I think he looks more like a blotched jawfish.
Here's my question. What is more important in ID-ing a jawfish: the presence of a gold rim around the eye, or the pattern on its body? I guess his head looks like a gold-spec jawfish since it doesn't have blotches but up close has very tiny flecs, but it doesn't have a gold rim around the eye and it definitely has blotchy white and brown spots.
Any thoughts? Otherwise, does anyone have a good site where I can go to for comparing photos?
