ID weird hard substance

This stuff is growing on two of my rocks and its pretty difficult to remove. Its hard and smooth.

Any thoughts?

Terry (Reefmack) is right on the ID that stuff ranges in color from browns to red it's somewhat common I had had it several times over the years I wouls peel it off if it bothered me.

It's on 4 of my rocks. It ranges from a dime size to that big spot which is now about 3/4 the size of a dollar bill. Any east way to remove besides taking the rock out? That's my foundation rock, so its a toughy. Maybe chop off some of my GSP and stick it on top of it? Watch it disappear ^.~

Edit: I have been pulling off as much as I can during water changes. Thoughts on some type of urchin? Been reading that some urchins do eat it, a hit and miss thing.
