I got lucky with my pair. The male was in the tank for a few months before I got the female. She was about half his size, I was a bit worried since he was so much bigger and very strong/healthy compared to her. He shadowed her like a hawk for a few days, but no outright aggression. At lights-out (mating time), he would go crazy around her, but she just kinda ignored him even when he was displaying like 1" away from her. After some time, as she became more healthy and put on a lot of weight, she returned his advances. She was always in control though, it was highly amusing to watch her cruise around like nothing was happening when she wasn't in the mood, with the male zooming around and doing everything he possibly could to catch her attention
