Well, my wife and I decided that an aquarium for our 18 month old daughter, Zoe, would be a blast. I had freshwater aquaria when I grew up and actually had a 70 gallon sw tank in the early 90's until life got it the way. I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks and will be taking delivery of the 250 on Friday. I had about 50lbs of base rock delivered today, a TDS meter, and will soon have my RODI system in hand to get things rolling.
I'm amazed at how much has changed since I had my SW aquarium 20 years ago. Magnum canister filter, some dead coral, and my FO tank was rolling. No protein skimmers, UV lights, Live Rock. This is going to be a whole new game.....
The initial plans are to have this be a FOWLR but leave the door open to some soft corals down the road. Everything I've read indicates that this set-up should be idiot (me) proof, so I'm excited. It will be placed in our just finished basement and the temperature there stays between 68-70F so I'm hoping to avoid a chiller.
Initial plans for fish (over time, not all at once) are:
1) Couple of B/W clowns
2) Firefish
3) Goby
4) Dwarf angel (either Flame or Coral Beauty)
5) Potentially a small butterfly fish.
I'll be sure to post pics as I go through the process. I'm just hopeful that it will look as beautiful as some of the member's tanks I've seen here.
Can't wait 'til Friday!
