why doe's my yellow tang have a black spot at night time??

does it go away during the day? May be a hiding defense at night...

I have seen tangs "change" color slightly. I think is is more of a lack of color than a change. I have seen many fish fade in color at night. Not sure if this is what you are seeing or not.

I have a yellow tang and he does it also. Its noticeable when the lights in the tank are out. It looks like a bruise in the center of his body. Its normal. When i look at my tank in the mornings right after opening blinds i can see it when he comes out of hiding.

The colour change reflects that the tang is in "Sleep mode" and isn't at it's most allert. Every one of the ones I had did that at night (used to nurse some tangs back to health for the LFS). At first it startled me because it looked a lot like bruising but since it went away each day I didn't worry about it.

there is also a lateral stripe on them that is white, that is sometimes not visible during the day, but becomes pronounced at night when their color fades. if that's what you're talking about, it's normal.
