Using FW sand for Reef?

I'm taking down my FW tank soon and starting a nano reef in my 20L.
Would I be able to transfer the Carib Sea Tahitian Moon sand into the reef tank and let the LR seed it?

It's possible to do, but I would not recommend it.

Sand for FW systems is often silica based, so you tend to get that in the water, possibly leading to brown algae (actually diatoms) outbreaks.

Your going to end up spending quite a bit of money upgrading a FW tank to SW. No point in risking a problem over a few dollars worth of sand.

I agree with Dave. Sand is cheap enough compared to everything else in this hobby.
I am assuming the sand is black also? Black tends to have a negative impact on the corals because of it's non ability to reflect light.

I would not use that sand because it could be loaded up with dirt from the freshwater setup, but you can use that brand of sand (new) for saltwater. It looks really cool, although it is difficult to keep clean.
