Starting with a Reefer 350

Hi all,

Last week I ordered a Red Sea Reefer 350 in white from my LFS. It should be here on Friday with all the equipment and supplies trickling in this week and next. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to mix the salt and fill the tank. I don't have any sort of dedicated drum to mix water and I'll have to use tap water.

Here's breakdown of the equipment and supplies I have on order.

77 lbs. of ReefRock 2.1
40 lbs. of CaribSea Arag-Alive Special Grade Reef Sand
EHEIM Compact+ Pump 3000
Bubble Magus Curve 5 Protein Skimmer
Hydor Koralia Evolution 1400/1500 Aquarium Circulation Pump
2 - Kessil A360WE Controllable LED Aquarium Light, Tuna Blue
2 - Kessil LED Light Pendant A-Series Gooseneck Clamp/Mount
2 - Kessil 90 Degree Adapter for Gooseneck Mount
2 - Finnex 300-Watt Hang-On Digital Controller Aquarium Heater
Red Sea MCP Marine Care Master Test Kit
HDE LCD Digital Fish Tank Aquarium Thermometer
8-Channel Power Strip and Lighted Blue Toggles On/Off Power Panel
25 Foot - Python No Spill Clean and Fill Aquarium Maintenance System
Instant Ocean 77964 IO BIO-Spira (Marine), 8.45-Ounce, 250-ml.
Flipper Aquarium Algae Magnet Cleaner with Two Blades
Dual Scale Sea Water Salinity Refractometer
175-gal. Red Sea Fish Pharm ARE11230 Coral Pro Marine Salt

Can I mix the salt and water in the tank? I was thinking filling the tank half way with the salt and water and then the next day add the sand and rock and then top off the tank. Also, with the sump system do I fill the tank to the overflow and then fill the sump? Once filled then turn the pump on?

Very Nice Congrats !

The 1st time... you can mix the salt & water in the tank...

Here a post you may be interested in...

A Simple RO/DI hookup anyone can do...

I would try to get a LFS (local fish store) to loan you some 5 gallon jugs, most will do this & get some ro/di water & mix it yourself - very simple or buy sw from lfs - then get an empty 5 gallon pail from lfs & a bucket of salt, then it's easy to mix 5 gallon at a time...

Hope this helps...
