something's eating my starfish

I have had a red starfish for about 6 mos and in the last 5 days I have noticed his arms appear to be being chewed on. One is definitely shorter. and had white strings coming from the end. The only thing in the tank is a shrimpgoby, and emerald crab and some COC, ?????
ps having a cyano outbreak? related?

This may not be a case of "Being eaten" but more of a case of "dissolving".

Starfish are very sensitive to water parameters and the truth is many times we aren't sure how to maintain stars in our tanks long term. It may just be "expiring" from slow starvation or something could be wrong in the tank. I've seen (and had) starfish slowly tear apart over a day or so. Dropping a piece of leg here... a whole leg there... it looks awful when it's happening as the body literally just falls apart.

What are your current water test results?

i agree, the cyano isnt cuasing it, but whatever is causing the cyano is probably causing this too!
