slowing things down

Just got my new vortech for the rsm, had a benefit that i didn't think about.. Now that its providing all the flow I could ever want, I can switch off one of the return pumps in the back.

The surface skimmer wasn't working properly due to too much out power vs too much filter sponge/media. By cutting the return in half, the surface skimmer is working perfectly now. I'm running the full size black sponge, a phosphate sponge + phosban in a bag, carbon & ceramic noodles, its a lot to get through using gravity, but with only the one pump, its working great now.

And with all the extra stuff the vortech is kicking up, i need that surface skimmer doing its job!

marine281,
Great observations there!!!! Let us know how well it works for you. I am very curious about this. Sounds like you have it dialed in pretty well now to your liking. Are you running the RSM skimmer? Keep us updated on it's output of waste too.
Thanks!

Good news! I could comment on mis-engineering of the tank, but that's redseareef's job LOL!
