Pearl in clam dinner

Wow that is cool! I grew up in Florida and we would go clamming down in Ft. Desoto and off the Skyway Bridge beach. We would always find pearls in the clams we got, but they were the worthless white, chalky ones. A purple one is rare indeed!

We are oyster lovers here in NC. Usually find sand or a bit of fecal coliform in the shellfish here :D j/k

Nope, the second pearl story is from 2 years ago. The first one was reported end of Dec.

That's funny, because growing up in Florida we never called them clams, we called them quahogs.

I've never heard that term, but I've lived in California, VA and NC most of my life so...We call them good with butter.

We used to wade out in thigh high water feeling for them in the soft sand with our feet. It was always creepy when something would race across or out from under your foot! I'd come home with the worst sunburns and we'd have a quahog feast. :D
