New to reefing and new to Reef Sanctuary - Red Sea Max C-250 arriving tomorrow 5/2/14

The name is Roy and I am totally new here and new to reefing.
We live in Damascus, NE Ohio but hail from Stourbridge, West Midlands in England. Been in Ohio since 1998.
Been studying reef tanks for last 6 months and finally got a Red Sea Max C-250 ordered a couple of days ago, it is due to arrive tomorrow, Friday 5/2/2014 :eek:lsmile:

Kept freshwater tropical fish in a previous life but zero experience with marine systems.
Have served a kind of semi-apprenticeship in water filtration back in England, where we kept Koi Carp for many years.
Decent sized outside pool /Japanese garden with own design of extensive biological and ultra violet system.
Also here in Ohio designed and installed my own well water filtration system to remove dissolved iron, methane gas and excess amounts of calcium.
So I have a bit of understanding that checking and keeping the water chemistry "good" is pretty vital.

Very much enjoy writing and have been fortunate to have been published in a few English magazines.
The reef bug really bit earlier this year when our live-in niece and I gained our Padi Open water Dive certificates in the Caribbean.

So this is my first post on Reef sanctuary, I will need a lot of help as I go through cycling the tank and trying my best to help nature and not be in any hurry at all.
Hopefully the water, live rock and live sand will be in the tank and I hope to start the cycle sometime in the next couple of weeks.

I will start our tank thread in the Red Sea area, get ready to help me and for sure scold me rotten when you know I am heading up a blind alley and it is obvious that I have no clue :yup:

Welcome Aboard, Matey!

I hail from central Ohio myself, and my tank is just over a month old. So maybe way down the road, when we have well established tanks, we can do some frag swaps? Heck, it might even be beneficial to do an earlier Live Sand swap once your tank has cycled to try and add biodiversity to each of our micro organisms?

Good luck with the start up!

Hi all and Snid,

I am located South of Youngstown, east of Canton.
The idea of doing some exchanges sounds pretty smart.

I have started a tank thread, I have the RSM C-250 all ready to fill and have posted some photos of un-boxing it and the assembly involved.

A bit of a delay now because we have visitors from England arriving today so it will be next week when I start to the first fill.
