I have found if you want growth, run 10K bulbs and you might increase photo period but that is not always necessary depending on how much wattage you have over the tank. If you want color, you want to run a 20k bulb or suppliment with actinics.
After my light change out (All T5's to MH's) my corals are growing like weeds compaired to what they where and the colors are starting to really come out. This is only after 3 or 4 weeks of running.
