How to increase quality of tap water without RO/DI?

If you have a trigger and a puffer i do not know what to tell you because escargo is a really expensive fish food especially as the fish get large. I know puffers tend to like crustaceans so algae eating crabs are probably out. I have 4 each of the above snails in my 34 and it took them 2 weeks to completely clean the tank of diatoms after start up and a few pockets of hair algae, probably 5% coverage when they started on it. So depending on how bad your outbreak is thats one for every 3 gallons of water volume. I also have 4 hermits helping them. 75 snails for your tank. With that said, depending on how fast your trigger and puffer eat them, you may want to double that number.

You can reduce your photo period and light starve the algae, but unless you get nitrates and phosphates under control it will be back with a vengence.

Good luck
