Fuge Light with Magnet

Want to add a light to my fuge.
The one I want is held on the back by a magnet on the inside of the fuge in the water.
My Hydors are also held in place magnetically.

I understood that "metals" in SW tanks is a "bad thing".

Can anyone comment, are magnets in contact with the water bad for inhabitants of salt water aquariums?

Should I have any concerns?

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Did you have a specific product in mind?

Offhand I think you could use anything that is made for aquarium use.

As a note, some people like using a light that contains a lot of red on a refugium, since tht can encourage a lot of algae growth.

Thanks DaveK, yes the innovative marine MagnaFuge, which is perfect size, and colour for fuge I am working on, just, out of the blue, I started thinking about magnets and metal.

yes, from what I understand, metals like aluminum are bad. But, if it tank safe, possibly covered with a plastic, then I wouldn't worry about it. I use the magnet cleaner to wipe my glass. Just make sure you clean it regularly.

The Two Little Fishies Veggie mag Seaveggie Clip, that lots of us use is a magnet covered in plastic, after a few years they do rust, but i have never worried about that... added GFO :winky: Granular Ferric Oxide
