Is there a downfall to having plants in a reef tank? Also what's the best plant for reducing nitrates?

I don't think there are any downfalls except saltwater plants are hard to come by. I collected this codium in New York,

I like the Red Gracilaria. It's a nice looking algae/plant and easy to grow. The red color makes for a nice accent in my tank. I have some in both the DT and refugium.

Be aware that some fish will eat the macro algae. Had a yellow tang for a few months. Ate all the macro algae I had in the tank. He's now living large on a farm in the country.......:)
