Downfall to plants?

Is there a downfall to having plants in a reef tank? Also what's the best plant for reducing nitrates?

I don't think there are any downfalls except saltwater plants are hard to come by. I collected this codium in New York,

I'm pretty sure he's talking about Macro Algae. As Paul stated there are very few true "Marine Plants" avialable.

There are TONS of Macro Algae... some good.. some not so good...

well idk what I think im talking about but im talking about stuff like cheato or the stuff Paul B posted. I don't want stuff that looks like algae I want stuff that looks plant like.

Most "Macro" algae look like "plants".

I like the Red Gracilaria. It's a nice looking algae/plant and easy to grow. The red color makes for a nice accent in my tank. I have some in both the DT and refugium.

Be aware that some fish will eat the macro algae. Had a yellow tang for a few months. Ate all the macro algae I had in the tank. He's now living large on a farm in the country.......
