In a FishOnly setup, the primary need for Water change is to reduce toxins /waste.
I would let a weekly nitrate test tell you when and how much to change. FO tank can go up to 40ppm nitrate without much issue, but if you want to get corals at some point, it's best to get used to keeping it under 10ppm ideally.
You have to test to get to know your system, and when you figure out a routine, it's smooth sailing. :)

Stir is spot on. My only other comment is if you are trying to grow macro algae setting up an algae scrubber might not be the best idea at least until your macro is established. They are going to compete for resources and it's hard to say who is going to win. There might be enough to go around for both, but I'd get my macro going first.
