HELP! Cover for reef aquarium

I'm looking to build a cover for my aquarium but not sure what to use it needs to be strong so the cat doesn't fall in lol

I have had cats in the past end up wet, and they never did it again....However, they were used to sitting on a glass canopy that was not there at that exact moment.

Glass canopy or thick acrylic is your best bet for a cat. That or lose the cat.

I bought a canopy for mine that I covered with black mesh for any open holes. This serves me several purposes: keep dog hair out, keep fish in, hides rear plumbing, mount my lights and gives me a place to set stuff when feeding, testing or cleaning.
