I thought it kind of looked like a gorilla crab, but was waiting for RS member Mike Johnson to see this post, he is one of the better crab id gurus

it kinda looks like a xanthidae crab to me... there are many species so i wouldnt know which one it would be... heres a link check it out here

Don't give up on getting this crab ID'd. Those are some pretty good pictures!
What are your plans for it? Do you have a refugium or a place for it?, if it turns out to be NOT reef safe?

I thought the OP already identified it as a "bad crab", so didn't think he needed any further help. tomr33 is correct, Xanthid species; which are labeled as the worst crabs to have in a tank. Knowing where the rocks came from could help in identifying the exact species.

i put him in my 10 gallon mini reef with some pretty aggressive inhabitants he will be lucky to make it to full size.

and as to where i got my rock my tank has been up almost 2 years i am unsure which piece of rock/frag he came in on.
