Yes. Top off water should be fresh water (ideally RODI water). Don't top off w/salt water. Water that evaporated from your tank leaves behind all minerals, salts, nitrogen compounds (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate), etc.
Use fresh water (perferably RODI) for top off. Without an auto top off unit, topping off daily would help from having swings in your salinity. Water evaporates, salt doesn't = higher salinity in remaining water.
On my RSM 250 I use the Tunze Nano Osmolator 3152 $106 no need for the $200+ model. Though rated at 55 gal. It does the job for my RSM 250 and its super easy to set up.
I use a Tunze ATO as well (don't remember which size off-hand). It helps to keep salinity of the tank constant. As been mentioned by several already, if you are topping off every other day, you should test salinity levels to make sure the difference isn't too much.
