Anyone know what kind of Anemone this is? The rock is from Florida - TBS

Majanos seem to be green/purple with long rounded tentacles. So unless they came in other variations I didn't think this was it?

I have dealt with Aiptasia in the main tank and this guy doesn't look like the same thing. The Aiptasia have been fairly solid in color, smaller disk/body with long twisting and pointed tentacles. So I didn't think it would be an Aiptasia.

This guy is beefy with thick, stubby tentacles. You can see his color as well. None of the Aiptasia I've seen have this color. He does appear to have some stripes like the Aiptasia but he is also heavily mottled. He's also a bit wider than the Aiptasia. Again, maybe there are various variations of Aiptasia?

I had someone tell me it was a bead anemone. So I wasn't sure. I was thinking of letting it grow since it is in the QT and see what happens.

Thanks everyone for your input! :)

No, not a bead anemone. They look slightly like majanos but behave like rock anemones. It looks like MantisMan's aptasia but stunted or maybe it isn't doing good. Be careful with it. If it spits spores, you'll have a ton of them.
Also, there are different color majanos. I had reddish/tan color ones attached to frags from my LFS. There's no way that's majano though.

Edit:
Oops, I kept researching bead anemones and came up with this picture. Looks like it... other pics looked nothing like this....

Also, just discovered in 2005.

Nice link Cat

I agree it looks to be a bead anemone. At first I was thinking rock anemone but that link makes me think I was wrong.

The problem identifying it is that it's very small/young. It could also be Sagartia Elegans. Very difficult to tell iwth the small ones.

Sorry, delayed response.. It's grown a bit larger and seems to prefer having the light in the tank off. It hides a bit when the light is on. I will try to get a picture this afternoon.

Thanks for your help everyone!

Def NOT an aip but I agree with PIMPALA. If you didn't intentionally buy it from an LFS....kill it. Unless you want an infestation, end it now.
