Activated Charcoal in sump

Charcoal helps to remove the toxins from the water and also helps to keep it clear. To get the best results, put it where it will get good flow through it.

I run it pretty much all the time. Usually in a reactor but lately I have been lazy and just run it passively in the sump. Easier to change out that way. :)

It's best not to change all of it at once. I have four little bags of it in a reactor and I change the oldest bag each week. The "bag" is a ladies knee high stocking cut in half, 10 pair for $3. I swish the bags in RODI each week and tie a knot in the end for each week it's in the reactor...four knots gets tossed out and a new bag. This method changes 25% each week. I run it 24/7

24/7 in my 180 in a reactor. I change it all monthly. I wouldn't recommend doing that on a smaller tank though.
