D3 is in the DT!

1st photo is the first minute of life after QT (6 weeks).
Next photo is 1st poop. The monti should like that.
The dead area on the monti (front/right) is from the Rock Flower Nem

Thanks again Craig and Blake.

Durante 3 did not eat this morning but I am sure he is just getting settled in still.
In the QT D3 would be waiting to be fed in the morning before the lights came on but I am sure I stressed the lil guy out in catching him and transfer him to the big tank. He still has a lot of tank to explore

I havent updated in a bit.
D3 was eating and doing fine for a couple of days. Then the morning of April 2 I was just checking in on D3 - gonna give him some breakfast.
Tank is still dark so I am using a flashlight. I dont see him any where but he is a good camouflage fish. There he is! On the floor in front of the tank. He got through the four layers of bird netting. I really did not think he could get through. I should have listened to the clam man that told me tulle.

I need to totally rethink my fish stocking plan.
I have gone through 3 LNHF and 2 midas (or was it 3?) in the last year.
I have to accept the fact that LNHF and Midas blennies are not for me.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Its time to try a different fish.. . . or no fish.

So this evening I took some March Madness winnings to my LFS.
Of corse they had an adorable LNHF and 2 different midases one of which was swimming out and about everywhere.

I came home with a blennie.
The LFS called it a peacock blennie from the maldives
of the genius Salaris (lawnmower)
I have not seen one quiet like him before.

Of course he is in QT!

Thank you Deb and Doni!

Wow Deb! a 120g seahorse tank. That will be something special for sure.

I know Doni, If anything I would have thought the LNHF might have gotten caught up in the layers of bird netting. I will be switching the screen to tulle!
I am so glad your picassos stay in the anchor coral down on the substrate.
No jumping for them!

I have been trying to confirm the identity of my new Blenny.
MY LFS called him a Maldives Peacock Blenny (Blennius Pavo) but the only photos I have found of a peacock Blenny are from the Mediterranean and they does not look like my fish. I have seen photos of Orange spotted Blenny (Blenniella chrysospilos) that looks more like my guy. However on my fish the orange spots turn into orange stripes down the length of his body?

Any one have any ideas?

Oh Heinz? where are you and your expertise?

Hi Jeff,

your picture show us indeed an blenny from the Indo Pacific, possibly of the Maldives, it shows a Istiblennius chrysospilos or Red-spotted blenny. This species has several sub-species so e.g. Istiblennius chrysospilos „insulinus„ which the whole body has spotted. Other sub-species show minimal dissenting body drawing.

Here are some pictures of my last diving trip to the Maldives 2008.

Hope I could help.:clink:

by the way ... a simply woderful addition ...congrats.

edit: Istiblennius chrysospilos is the only one I know of blennies in which the red dots in the fins continue.

I dont know what it is but its beautiful, looks kind of like the one I was looking at for the new 90 gallon. Sorry to hear about the jumper, I have had fish make it through bird netting, and I have 2 layers of that stuff criss crossing, so I dont know how the heck it happens, I guess when fish want carpet they find a way to get carpet

I hate to hear about the escape. How do you have the net anchored? I am going with velcro this time.
I love the new guy. Blennys have always been one of my favorites. They just have such cute faces.

Thanks Lynn,
My tank is acrylic and part of the top is also covered with acrylic with a pair of rectangular opening on both sides and another smaller opening by the overflow box. My netting is in a frame that covers all the openings and the weight of the frame keeps it in place.

Brenda I have not gone to the fabric store yet to get the tulle yet.
The bird netting will keep the big wrasse in the tank.

A couple new photos of the Red Spotted Blenny

Last night Chrysos, as I have named the blenny, was really hamming it up for the camera. He is doing really well. Eating a lot and he is all over the QT.
He seems to like having his photo taken.
