Rule of thumb I've used so far... 7-10 x Volume external flow (tank to sump) 25-30 x Volume internal flow (powerheads)

I've tried everything to get my Mag 5 to be quiet enough to bear... Even as an external ATO pump, I can hear it across the house when it kicks on. I'll be changing to a MJ1200 so that its not a jackhammer.

I have a smaller "new guy" 1 gallon. I put them in the tank with the water they were living in, and add a piece of air tubing thats been made to allow about 1-2 drips per second. Slowly but surely they're adjusted to the DT conditions. You still need to monitor them carefully for the first hour...

So I've been looking at setting up a 125 gallon reef, as I've decided that 55 gallons isnt big enough. Problem is that Metal Halide fixtures for a 72" tank would ruin my budget... Could I get away with a 48" fixture to cover the majority of the tank? Or should I just do it with T5s? Oh...
