Wow that is impressive!! Do you think the LEDs increased their growth??

hehe.. well with no base line or HQI set to compare them to i really can't tell. All i do know is that the coral is growing under the lights and seems to be doing pretty good so far!

the only real way to get a semi solid growth comparison is for someone to do a side by side test using 4 frags from the same colony and about the same size. set up 4 identical tanks with the equivalent light sources to ONE of the LED halides (same wattage HQI, T-5, PC, and LED). Run all 4 tanks off the same sump system so the water quality is the same. use the same equipment in each tank (less the lighting) and do a week to week comparison. you could put more than just One type of coral in the tanks to see how different coral reacts to the light, but each frag set must be from the same colony.

overall i am very pleased with the lights. in deed!

haha... someone send me the following and i'll be happy to set up a comparison system

  • 4 20 gallon tanks
  • 4 20 gallon stands
  • 1 HQI system equivalent to the Coral Dynamics system
  • 1 T5 system equivalent to the Coral Dynamics system
  • 1 PC system equivalent to the Coral Dynamics system
  • 1 Coral Dynamics system
  • 1 Eheim 1265 pump
  • 1 ADHI 40 sump
  • 4 K1 power heads

and i'll supply the rest of the plumbing, fragging gear, power, space, water as well as 4 types of frags to use as the test cases and anything else needed.

I'll be happy to return all the equipment after the test is done.

:D

well i have some bad news today.. my nice little squamosa clam seems to have died. he was open and looked happy this morning before i left for work and tonight when i got home he was all detached and the hermits were cleaning him up. :( he was a nice little guy and i'm kind of disappointed. from the day i got him home he has never really opened up fully like big boy. he never really got any more "open" than this

he had a nice spot in the tank with a solid foundation and good flow and ample light. Big boy is doing great so i dunno what may have happened.

sigh.

thank you. this one has made it past the 1 week mark (knock on wood) he's eating a little and pecking at my rock. I do believe the little duster worms on the back glass are pretty much all gone and i think he's the one eating them.

I got three frags today at the LFS. I picked up a Orange Monti, a small rock of Star polpyps, and a loose mat of red zoas.

I will be meeting someone tomorrow and picking up some more stuff. :) gonna set up my frag/grow out system this week :) cant wait!

you could keep a small one for a few months but it will quickly out grow the system. I'm only keeping this one in this 40 until november/december when my new house is built. after that he will have a nice 200gal reef to live in :)

yep. frag tank. I hope to have some time to get it set up this week. I have a few things to finish up and make some room for it first.
