What's he doing? Splitting or ?

My toadstool looked like it was dying a few weeks ago. It was all closed up and looking like crap. I left it alone because it wasn't disintergrating or anything. Now it looks ok, opened back up, and has a hole in the foot. Is it splitting? Here are a couple of pics....

Thanks

Leathers will split as a form propagation. Sometimes it is a sign that they are feeling threatened or unhappy with their neighbors.

well the xenia was starting to get out of control & was very close to it. I've trimmed it back since, maybe that was the problem.

I have a Big colt coral that cot a big hole at the base of the trunk. The hole just started to close up, but it split into another piece. Now the hole is gone.
