Upgrade from 55 to 90g aga rr

Hi all,
Have a 55 fowlr running for over a year now and will be upgrading to a 90 g rr tank.
Any suggestions as which circulation pumps to use, meaning what size or how many gph so that I am not having a sand storm in the tank lol?
I would like to get the vortech 40's but right now that is not in my budget lol.
I currently am running a refugium, whith a quiet one pump model 3000 which is about 780 gph. I would assume I would have to upgrade this pump to at least a 900 gph?

It depends on what the tank you're buying can "delivery" to your sump. You'll have to find out what size bulkheads and how many in order to have a clue as to what size pump. Also you'll need to calculate the Head-loss on the pump due to having to push water up from your sump/fuge into the tank.

My 90g system was able to handle about 1400gph (if memory serves me correctly). I had a Mag18 (1800gph) but with the head height loss the pump was rated at around 1300 gph. This was a "Safe Margin" for me. You don't want to put more INTO the tank than the overflow can take OUT of the tank or your living room becomes part of your marine world.

Congrats on the upgrade.I have a 90g but it is 3x2x2 and im running a mag 12 to run that and a 40g frag tank that is plumbed into the same sump.I wouldn't use less then the mag 12.Like Big Al says check to see what the bulkheads can handle.But anyways you will find you are going to love the 90g.

first thanks for the replies.
If it matters I have the mega flow adjustable over flow. 1' and 3/4' bulkheads.

Forgot to mention it's 1 corner overflow. I was thinking a 9.5 mag would do fine.

Any suggestions for the circulation pumps?

How high does the pump have to push water to get into the Display Tank?

Contact that seller and ask them how much that kit will FLOW.

Mega flow is rated for 600 gph. I would say 5 feet to push water into tank.

You'll need to know pretty close how high you're going because it makes a difference. Of course I suggest installing a valve so you can throttle the return pump back some.
