Any ideas what this is. Nice freeby that came up on the rock after a couple of months.

I have the same stuff in my tank but it doesn't last long as it's a real delicacy for animals in the tank!

thanks, that sure looks like it. Mine is a deeper red but that could be the lighting. Don't see anyone eating it. See pieces floating around and yesterday the whole thing had come loose. I suspect a crab picking around it.

Whoa... I don't know what it is, but after clicking that link Woodstock provided, I want one. That's some pretty algae.

I have several groups of it also, nothing bothers it and its spreading nicely, I have no idea where it came from. I have not purchased any live rock in years.
Then all of a sudden its here.
Really pretty stuff.

Well, I have dived into the ID books and do not have all that much to say but;

Safedad

Pic to far away for good ID. The best I can guess is something like it from my books;

Chrysymenia littleriana

http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=Chrysymenia &btnG=Google+Search&sa=N&tab=wi

and

Predaea feldmanniii very common looks more like yours

Your is even harder. The closest I can find is something like a Coelarthrum sp Some are also kinda "Animal Craker" looking. Also need a better pic
