Can I open up the bag and dump the contents into a phosphate reactor? I don't forsee any possible problems...

i see no problem with this other than you are wasting your money buying chem-pure elite and using it like this, for around $20 you can find a gallon of activated carbon pellets and then get some rowaphos or other generic GFO, and filling up your reactor, it would be a lot cheaper than spending $12 or $20 dlls per bag to fill up the reactor, and also they only contain a small portion of GFO wich is the element that reduces phosphate, containing mostly carbon...

I bought a half unit for $7-8 but I will keep your advice in mind next time. The manufacturers make it sound like it does everything.
They always do. Always check out filtration and additive products here first. Many are questionable. A few do a lot more harm than good.

maybe some of our sponsors have good price in carbon, try to check them out, or buy bulk quantities of activated carbon, i just ran out and when to my LFS and got 1 gallon for $18 wich is not bad if you look you can find better. also the GFO is a little more expensive but you buy one time and it last for a while...
