im looking to build a sump for a 60 gallon tank and was curious if i got a pump that lets say 1200 gph is that to much is there any such thing as to much water movement the sump is gona be a 20 long

I would think as long as your not pumping it out faster then its coming in you would be good to go.

im wanting to do an overflow seup i dont kno much about sumps but im building this 60 g from the ground up so im tryingto get away from the canister filter

Brandon aka jedi82knight or Devon aka Built347 are both experts on sump builds, pm one of them I'm sure they would be willing to help you out.

I'm putting a Mag 18 on a 50g tank... with the head loss, it should be around 1200gph as well. I'll let ya know for sure, but you should be good. As long as you don't have any "weak swimmers" like seahorses, you can use quite a good bit of flow from a return pump.
