Stinky fry tank

The water in the tank that I am using to raise my fry gets a very strong "saltwater marsh" smell after about 24 hours. I am using the water from the parents tank and have a heater and an airline running in the tank. Any idea what would be causing the strong smell? The ammonia level is normal/safe. The first batch of fry only lived for about 48 hours. Thank you.

the food you feed your fish, assuming rotifers, does the tank u raise those in have that smell?

Salt marsh smell isnt from ammonia, its from methane gass. decomposing plant/animal matter releases it.

My suggestion is some big water changes.

The phytoplankton and the rotifers do not have the same smell, in fact they really have no odor. The water starts out with no odor and only develops the smell later. In fact, due to a failed fry hatch, the last batch of water got the smell with no rotifers, fry or phyto in it. I am at a loss as to what would cause the smell.
