I am considering modding my existing T5s as follows:
1) Remove one ballast and two center bulbs and sockets and insert LEDs (model TBD) in their place.
2) Replace other two ballasts with ATI dimmable T5 ballasts. Keeping 4 T5 bulbs (likely ReefSpec Blue/whites); 2 in front and 2 in back.
I like the idea of being able to control the T5s with my Apex. And I also really like the idea of having a T5/LED combo unit. I would only be removing the 2 actinic T5 bulbs, so I don't think I'd be losing any PAR value.
I need to make certain the T5 sockets are non-shunted, which appears to be a requirement of the dimmable ballasts. @RedSeaKev any chance you know the answer?
I am curious if anyone here has tried this mod? Is there anything that I should be concerned about?
