Return Plumbing question

So I am in the process of adding a sump/fuge to my 40g tank and I cut the return PVC so that you cant see it stick up above the back of the tank for cosmetic purposes. Then there is a fitting in the end of it to attach locline to come up over the edge of the tank and into the water. But then I realized that I am supposed to drill a hole in the PVC to stop a syphon during power outage, however the PVC isnt up over the edge and in the aquarium...so how do I fix this?

The only thing I can think of is to extend the pvc up over the tank or I can put the locline out of the water but then I think it will make noise shooting water into the tank if it isnt submerged. There is a pic in my chronicle

Can't you drill the hole in the locline instead of the pvc?
A suction break is a suction break.

I agree with Victor, just drill the hole in the lock line where it will spill into the tank. It might make a little noise but that is the nature of this hobby.
