Refugium Maintenance

What type of maintenance do I need to run on a refugium? My tank/fuge is about 6 months old now and is overflowing with cheato. Should I be pulling it out and how much is too much? Do I need to siphon the sand bed like I do in the display? Should I stir the cheato on a regular basis?

I guess I am constantly reading up on maintenance needed on a display tank but have never run across anything concerning the fuge. Any help is appreciated.

All I ever do to mine is trim the macro algae.. I break the algae up in about 3 equal pieces/chunks and take alittle of each piece

If you have any setteling of detritus in there it should be vacuumed as well. Most people ahve enough life and flow that it's not a problem. But just an fyi.

Just some guy, you know?
I prune my cheto regularly so it doesn't shade itself too much, I also make sure to syphon the detritus off the bottom of the fuge tank with every water change. Other than that I replace the fuge bulbs every 6 months or so, and just let it run.
