Reef tank with plumbing on the side?

I have an ideal spot for a reef tank, but it is on a stone slab room divider [24" by 60"] and I cannot run anything below. Wondering if I could put all the 'plumbing' on the side enclosed in accessible 'box' to keep the installation as clean as possible. I know there are laws of gravity involved here, but maybe technology can overcome.

Well steve...I would like to put everything that would typically go underneath....filtration, skimmer, heater, etc just moving to the side and drilling into the tank from the side.....

No problems I can see with that, just holes bulkheads and pumps, if you got a 60'' tank you could partition off one end for a sump/fuge and you lighting could do both. What can you do for electrical?
