I am grtting a 300gal tank. It will be a heavily stocked reef with many different types of coral. Dimensions are 96Lx24Wx30H.I was thinking of 3-250watt 5000k mh bulbs, and about 880 watts of vho actinic. For a total of 1630 watts is this enough, and is it a good combo. Also, are the double ended mh bulbs that much better ? Should I use an electronic ballast? :bigbounce

Typically when dealing with MH's, you want 1 bulb for every 2 feet of length of your tank. With an 8 foot tank, you may want to consider adding another MH bulb. The rest should be fine, though.

Double ended halides are generally considered better. I'm going with electronic ballasts with my new set up.

Good advice Tarasco, I would definitely get the double ended MH's and you definitely need four of them for a tank that long the VHO's will be plenty on top of the four MH's. One more thing I would get 6500k or 10k.
