I agree with DaveK. It does become a nuisance. One of the reasons I had a tuxedo urchin was to keep the coralline algae in check, it devoured that stuff. One theory out on the web is that if you have too much of coralline algae built up, it blocks the porous nature of live rock and may limit the biological activity of the live rock in your tank.... again a theory to ponder....but it does make sense. If the coralline algae growth is extended over the entire rock and blocks all the pores, I can see how it can block biological activity of the rock.
