one more question

here are my two lighting options for my 10g tank. i want to be able to grow pretty much all coral. they first one is around half the wattage but $200 compared to $310. Probably going to get mushroom, polyp type corals:).

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3733+13822+23753&pcatid=23753 (attack 2 of the 20" together. can use 3 of them which brings the price up to $300).

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=13922 (lots of power, maybe too much. $310).

other options:

well let me know what you all think. my budget probably tops around at $350 and i'll have to earn much of this myself.

For a 10 gal tank, your best option is the last one. It's going to give you ok, but not fantastic light. The other lighting options going to be a bit too much, especially the MH, since it will cause heat issues on a 10 gal tank. Also, putting big expensive lighting on a 10 gal tank isn't going to be very cost effective.

Here's the thing. It's going to be very difficult to maintain anything like SPS corals in a 10 gal tank. With water changes, your just not going to be able to keep the tank that stable. This is going to limit you to things like zoas, soft corals and LPS corals. Don't feel too bad about that, since you can do a fantastic tank with them.

If you really want SPS corals, you would be much better off investing in a much larger tank, and looking for much more stable water conditions. That's going to mean a lot more money.

I would think and believe from what I've read that the aquatic life linkable fixtures are better than the coralife fixtures. Iwas looking into them for my 30" tanks but may go Catalina (5year ballast warranty) or something if I splurge maybe TEK.

Ok. Thanks for the advice. I'm leaning torwards the first one because for $100 i can start with 36w which isn't that bad and go up to 108w for ultimate power if need be. I don't really want sps.

some replies for aqualife say light stink.
