Does anybody know how to catch a mantis shrimp without taking out everything in the tank?

I have heard of people using 2 liter bottles and baiting it with silversides. If you know where the hole is then you can bait the trap and put it in fron of the hole. If you know where the hole is then you can take out the rock and freshwater dip it. Good luck!

fresh water dip will not work.
If you know what rock it is living in then remove that rock from the tank and pour club soda (seltzer water into the hole.) He will come flying out.
You chances of trapping him is pretty low imo as they are smart creatures.
If you dont know what rock he is in then you are going to have to watch in order to find out.

Has been struck by the ban stick
I used the FW dip on LR with mantis and it worked fine...ITS FRESHWATER, and they know it....it might take a few, but they wont be able to stand it.

Those traps are just OK IMO, I have never caught anything in them except for detrius! Good luck with it all though...Maybe keep him....make a small tank for him...like BOB.
