the bulbs are garbage, havent heard anything about the ballast but would look into icecap, pfo or hamilton. remember you get what u pay for. and for the reflector, well it will get you by but in the end itll be cheaper to do a DIY lumenarc reflector. DIY Reflector Build

You can buy a retro fit and put it in your canopy but Gsellers was telling you that one is not a good one. Personally I don't know since I bought an entire fixture and do not have a hood.
I'm not sure if Jack was talking about a fixture or a retro kit but I would bet he could get either for you. There are different quality in ballasts,reflectors, bulbs pretty much everything. If you are going to put your own together you will want the best of each thing.

i would imagon you would need some type of florecent in there to. remember you are trying to replicate a day and with one type of light that imposible. you would need replicate sunrise(not to bright), mid day(halides are perfect), then sunset(not to bright again)
