ok i have never had a ro/di unit before, but i got a used kent maxxima hi-s unit with my used 210 gal tank. I know i need to replace the filters but my question is are any filters better than the next, how often must you change the filters, and what should i test for to make sure the water is clean enough for the tank or do i have to test it?

ya you should test the water after it leaves the system you want to have 0ppm before using it to top off or make salt water they sell dual in-line TDS meters on eBay for around $25 i use one on my RO/DI I just put the IN side of my meter after tho RO stage and the OUT side after the DI stage so I know my final H20 is good and for the in I know when my RO membrane is going bad I tested my actual incoming tap one time but that really doesn't matter you can also get all the filters on eBay or bulk reef supply just make sure they will work the Kent unit my is kinda universal with filters but not sure about kent Happy Reefing!
